Even a baby can tell this is great stuff

You’ve been craving some scientific research on what sort of art babies prefer, haven’t you? (Haven’t we all?)

Answering the important questions in life is top priority for Zurich researchers who’ve discovered that babies prefer Picasso over Monet. Using a group of 24 babies, scientists had half of them look at Picassos while the other half were shown Monets. Next up, all the babies were shown two works side by side and researchers appraised which artist the tots lingered over longer. Most of the babies, regardless of which artist they’d been previously exposed to, seemed to prefer the Picasso as they kept their eyes trained on the cubist’s work.

According to Miller-McCune, “The researchers can’t explain this definitively, but they make a strong case that Picasso’s luminance — that is, the brightness of his colors — explains his appeal to the diaper-wearing demographic.”

But what if you’re a die-hard fan of Monet’s non-luminance? Just kidding, even babies know those don’t exist. (via Miller-McCrune)
