Good thing he has a job.

For men struggling in the tough job market, it seems there’s a pretty high chance they’re also struggling in the love market.

A study by ForbesWoman and YourTango found that 75% of women polled would not marry a man who was unemployed. But before you assume that they only polled, as Kanye West would say, women who are gold diggers (or, in late ’90s parlance, women who want no scrubs), take note that it was a question of marriage, not of a relationship.

In the women’s defense, 65% said that they wouldn’t want to get married if they themselves were unemployed. Rather than being greedy, these women seem simply to be pragmatic. Though the economy is rebounding, the unemployment rate still hovers around 9% and there are plenty of horror stories out there of people being out of work for months.

And, let’s face it, weddings are ridiculously expensive and with people increasingly getting married later in life, couples are often on their own when it comes to paying for the big day. So rather than committing to an unemployed person, perhaps these women just don’t want to commit to tens of thousands dollars in debt–without the means to pay it back.
