Foundation Frenzy: Artists Slather a Year’s Worth of Makeup On One Model

Natural makeup can create perfect everyday look. But a year’s worth of natural makeup applied at once can be pretty appalling.

The Dutch artist duo Lernert & Sander demonstrates exactly that in their short film, “Natural Beauty.” The couple, who debuted melting chocolate bunny with hairdryers, cakes Belgian model Hannelore Knuts’ face with undue amounts of Ellis Faas products this time. The foundation is thinly airbrushed to create the dewy skin in the earlier stage. Seven whole bottles later, however, it looks as if flesh is melting off of poor Knuts’ face. And with several bottles of blush, cream shadow and lip-gloss on top of that, the artists succeed in transforming the beauty into a beast.

The grueling 9-hour session was not easy on the model, whose face was trapped in the white frame the whole time. She only sipped yogurt and juice through a straw. But the cheeky creators were thoughtful enough to take care of the safety issues in preparation. “We tested a 100-layer session a few days before on our intern, who is a man,” they told Nowness. “It didn’t kill our intern so we trusted everything would be fine on Hannelore.”

Just hope she didn’t get bad breakouts the morning after.
