Watch: Jimmy ‘Rent Is Too Damn High’ McMillan Gets Documentary Treatment

The rent is still too high, but now you can watch the trailer for the upcoming documentary DAMN!, which traces the rise of 2010 New York gubernatorial candidate Jimmy McMillan of the Rent Is Too Damn High Party.

Though McMillan received just under 40,000 votes on Election Day, he is hoping more people will see his film, which has been bankrolled by a Kickstarter campaign and will be available for DVD purchase and online download on August 16th. So far, DAMN! has been shown at the Brooklyn Film Festival and the Little Rock Film Festival. Director Aaron Fisher-Cohen told The Politicker that the Cinema Village movie theater in Greenwich Village will also briefly screen the documentary from August 12-16.

The “Vietnam veteran, black belt Karate master, former stripper, and 70’s soul singer” became an Internet sensation after his memorable appearance at the October 18, 2010, New York gubernatorial debate.  Earlier this year, McMillan explained to PBS‘s Sal Gentile that he is now a registered Republican because the Democratic Party “sucked,” and he hopes to move the “Rent Is Too Damn High” movement under the GOP umbrella and challenge President Obama in 2012.

In the meantime, you can still purchase the McMillan talking action figure.
