Consider yourself a 3D enthusiast? Looks like you are in for a treat this Christmas season.

In The Adventures of Tintin, Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg’s 3-D animation is not the regular kind, but performance capture, the same technology James Cameron used to create Avatar. Details like subtle facial expression and finger movements are recorded and turned into digital models. When the first teaser was released in May, the clip, which didn’t include any close ups, made some skeptics think that the boy hero had been turned into a rubber zombie. It actually took two decades for Spielberg and his team to come this far. Turns out, the full trailer gives glimpses of riveting, realistic details enough to draw many anticipating viewers to the theater this winter.

The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, the first of the trilogy planned is based on the 1940s comic books, The Crab with the Golden Claws and The Secret of the Unicorn. The beloved Belgian boy journalist is voiced by now-grownup Jamie Bell of Billy Elliot fame, costarring with big names like Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Daniel Craig and Red Rackham. The film will premiere in Europe in October and in the U.S. just in time for the holidays in December.
