The cheers may have exceeded the decibel level of a normal golf clap – but no one seemed to mind.
The 61-year-old Watson, an American golfer who has taken the British Open title five times, wowed the crowd with an ace at Friday’s Open. Teeing off in the second round, his smooth-sailing shot flew 178 yards in a single shot. The ball bounced once on the green before hopping into the sixth hole for the ace, two shots under the hole’s par-3.

The crowd erupted after seeing the shot bounce into the cup. Watson high-fived his playing partner, British golfer Tom Lewis. Upon retrieving his sinker, Watson joked, “Wish I could have seen it go in.” Fortunately the glorious shot was caught on video. We’re sure he’ll play this clip over and over again.
It wasn’t enough to vault him to the top of the leaderboard, but he did end the round with par for the course. Watson currently sits at +2 on the score sheet. And while his shot was stunning at face value, it wasn’t the first of the tournament. Dustin Johnson notched a hole-in-one during Thursday’s opening round.
