The taxi used in the Canadian version of the TV show Cash Cab hit a pedestrian in Vancouver on Friday night, killing the victim.
According to the Associated Press, the 61-year-old man from Surrey, B.C. whose name has not yet been released, died in the hospital soon after the accident. The collision occurred late on Friday night in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside neighborhood.
The host of the show and driver of the taxi used for the Canadian version of Cash Cab, Adam Growe, is a comedian and a licensed taxi driver. However, he was not the one driving when the car hit the pedestrian. Andrew Burnstein, president of the production company Castlewood Productions Inc. which produces the show in Canada, told the AP that the driver was one of the producers who was en route to the storage lot after a day of filming.

The Daily Mail reported that there were no witnesses to the accident.
Cash Cab first aired in Britain in 2005 and since then has expanded to Canada, Chicago and New York and is aired on the Discovery Channel. In the show, unsuspecting city-dwellers hail the cab and must answer trivia questions to win cash prizes.
Even though the show takes place when the car is in motion and there is much potential for danger, there haven’t been any accidents of this scale involving the cab in the show’s history. In fact, the driver of the New York City cash cab, Ben Bailey, said in a video on the Discovery Channel’s website that he had never even gotten into a fender bender while filming.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and his friends and family,” Burstein said in a statement. “My heart also goes out to the driver of the vehicle.”
