Plan A: Operation Valkyrie. Plan B: Make the Führer a fraulein.

Another day, another bizarre report about Adolf Hitler in the British press. Now, according to new reports, recently unclassified documents reveal a hare-brained scheme dreamed up by Allied forces to derail the Führer. By spiking Hitler’s food with estrogen to feminize him. Yup.

“There was an Allied plan that they would smuggle estrogen into Hitler’s food and change his sex so he would become more feminine and less aggressive,” Professor Brian Ford of Cardiff University told the Telegraph. “Their research had showed the importance of sex hormones — they were beginning to be used in sex therapy in London.” Ford outlines the plot in a new book, Secret Weapons: Technology, Science And The Race To Win World War II.

Ford says they were agents close enough to Hitler that it “would have been entirely possible” to sneak the hormones into his meals. And unlike poisons, estrogen would not have been detected by Hitler’s cadre of food tasters.

Feminizing Hitler was just one of the nutty ideas dreamed up by British spies to cripple the German war machine, according to Ford. They apparently also considered dropping glue and poisonous snakes on Nazi troops and sneaking bombs into Germany in tins of fruit.

Prof. Ford says the most bizarre plot to come out of the Allied R&D was the top secret  “Great Panjandrum,” a massive water-born pinwheel strapped with rockets and packed with explosives. It was a far-fetched idea at best, yet scientists spent the equivalent of £1 million testing the contraption off the Welsh coast.

Perhaps they hoped that in his newly docile state, Hitler would mistake it for a gift. Hey, it worked with that giant wooden horse.
