If Katy Perry is in the market for a lucky number, she could do worse than 66.
The reason? That’s the amount of weeks that a single from her best-selling Teenage Dream album has resided in the the top ten of Billboard‘s Hot 100. The tune in question is “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and by hitting the top spot (along with “California Gurls”, “Teenage Dream”, “Firework”, and “E.T.”) she has impressively tied the late Michael Jackson’s record.
The King of Pop did the high five with “I Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Bad,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Man in the Mirror,” and “Dirty Diana,” all from Bad back in 1987-88. In the 53-year history of Billboard‘s Hot 100, they’re the only two artists to achieve this milestone.

Indeed, if anything, Perry achievement is even better: she’s spent a cumulative 18 weeks at the top with her singles compared to a positively paltry seven weeks for Jackson. But whereas MJ did it all by himself, it looks like KP had a little help from her friends. Turns out that a remix, released last week, of “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” which features a rapping cameo by Missy Elliott, did a world of good. Indeed, EW is suggesting that it pushed the single to No. 1, as plays and purchases of a remix do count towards where the original version ends up on the charts.
Meanwhile, Perry’s August is set to go from good to great: she has a more-than-anyone-else nine MTV Video Music Award nominations, including video of the year, and the ceremony takes place on Sunday, August 28. Not too shabby for a singer originally labeled a one-hit wonder upon the 2008 release of “I Kissed a Girl.” That song told us that she liked it. Well, she must be loving this feat. (via Vh1)
