There are thousands of stories from 9/11 that are inspiring, harrowing or just plain amazing, but how many of them involve Gwyneth Paltrow? Well, here’s at least one.

Recounting the morning of attack on the World Trade Center, Lara Lundstrom Clarke says in The Morton Report that she crossing the street on her way to the subway station when:

“a silver Mercedes SUV came barreling down towards me. I stopped and they screeched to a halt. Then it developed in to one of those classic who-goes-first situations. It got ridiculous. Then I made eye contact with the Mercedes driver. OMG it was Gwyneth Paltrow.”

Lundstrom Clarke said that the actress eventually waved her across and she continued on her way to the subway. However, when she got to the platform, the doors of the train were just closing and she was forced to wait for the next train. Luckily for Lundstom Clarke, that small delay prevented her from being at her desk at 8:47 am when the first plane hit the tower.

Clearly, the GOOP-master didn’t save anyone’s life in a NYFD hero sense — though sometimes stopping for pedestrians seems to require a saint-like patience — but we’re obviously glad that Lundstrom Clarke is okay. And you have to admit, the Sliding Doors connection is pretty crazy.
