The turbulent airline worker who infamously quit his JetBlue job by activating the emergency chute on a plane last year has landed himself with a year’s probation.
Steven Slater received the sentence in a New York City court Wednesday after completing a mandated mental health program, according to the New York Post.
It’s something of an easy ride for Slater, who originally faced felony charges of reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. Instead he wound up with just a single misdemeanor attempted criminal mischief conviction.
But the one-time frequent flier is unlikely to jet off on an expensive celebratory vacation any time soon. Slater’s crazy antics will hit his wallet hard. The judge ordered him to shell out $10,000 in restitution to JetBlue, in monthly payments of $831.25.
Slater, who is reportedly unemployed, has a plan to make back some of those forsaken paychecks; apparently, he’s set to write a book about his 20 years of flying. A new take on the airport novel, perhaps.
