Not only is the final grave of Alexander the Great unknown, but also the two tombs in which the Macedonian king is rumored to have previously rested are also lost in history. According to
Archaeology.org, Alexander had requested that his body be thrown into the Euphrates River after his death, so that he would seemingly
... disappear from Earth. However, his generals ignored this wish and instead prepared his body for burial. Legend has it that Alexander was originally placed in a tomb at Memphis in Egypt before being moved to Alexandria. His remains were then exhumed once more and moved to another undisclosed location somewhere in Alexandria. While there have been more than 140 official searches for Alexander's tomb, so far the former king remains undiscovered — and coincidentally, that's exactly what he wanted.—Erin Skarda MORE
