As anyone who has suffered through a long-distance relationship knows, nights are often the hardest time. Without the daily distractions of everyday life, you’re forced to reckon with the empty half of the bed.

So to combat the cold loneliness, Scottish designer Joanna  Montgomery has created Pillow Talk, a glowing, pulsing pillow that’s wirelessly connected to your lover’s heart. It works like this: each partner has a ring that monitors their heartbeat and transmits that pulse to a fabric panel that the other partner puts inside their pillow. So when your boyfriend or girlfriend puts on the ring before bed, your pillow will glow and pulse along to their real-time heartbeat.

It may seem extreme, but as anyone who has suffered through a long-distance relationship also knows, sometimes you need to go to extreme lengths to feel connected. NewsFeed thinks it’s bizarrely sweet and, if you can get past the Tell-Tale Heart-ness of the whole idea, sort of romantic. On the other hand, if you’re the type that wouldn’t be able to sleep with lights and buzzing going on in your bed, Pillow Talk will likely just keep you awake at night, thinking of how alone you are.
