Rick Perry’s ‘Oops’ Gaffe
Plot: The most-expected parody on this week’s episode started off sadly predictably (read: verbatim). Mirroring the Texas governor’s Wednesday night flub when he couldn’t come up with the third agency of government that he’d cut, the skit used the same “Oops” line. But Bill Hader’s goofy Rick Perry impression quickly took it from an overly scripted flop to a redeeming skit when Perry goes into meltdown mode. Mitt Romney takes a liking to Perry, realizing the benefit of the Texas governor’s flubs. “I want to be president, but not like this,” Jason Sudeikis’ Romney remarks as he steps in to console the withering Perry.
Best Line: “Is there an X in there? Is it trains? No, you can’t cut trains.”
The Devil on Penn State
Plot: Jason Sudeikis’ devil parody often appears when particularly heinous events pop up in the world. But even Satan didn’t want to take credit for the Penn State child abuse scandal. In fact, this time around, he didn’t even know it had happened. As it turns out, he gets his news from Ashton Kutcher’s Twitter feed (“It’s usually enough. My man’s plugged in!”). As Seth Meyers filled Satan in on the horrific details, even the king of the underworld couldn’t rationalize it. And Sudeikis’ spot-on delivery always brings the laughs.
Best Line:”Evil isn’t what it used to be. I’m going back to my old job. I was a customer service rep at Time Warner Cable.”
