In this frame grab provided by KIMT TV, mayor-elect Jeremy Minnier is seen at Hampton Dumont High School Nov. 9, 2011, in Aredale, Iowa.

He isn’t even old enough to raise a glass in celebration.

An Iowa teenager has been elected mayor in his hometown of Aredale — a town with a population of 73, according to the New York Daily News. Jeremy Minnier, 18, a Hampton Dumont High School senior, unseated current mayor Virgil Homer on November 8, after the incumbent garnered just eight votes. Minnier received 24 write-in votes.

The young upstart is following in the footsteps of his father, who was mayor of the town before he was born. Minnier told local television station KIMT-TV he stood because he thought the voices of residents were not being heard. And he has a message for those who doubt he’s up to the job.

“It’s just one of them things where people think, ‘You’re only 18, you can’t do this because you don’t know what’s going on.’ Well, that’s a false statement.”

Minnier will assume office on January 3, 2012, but will be something of a part-time mayor. He plans to attend community college during his four-year term. The teenager has said rural water supplies and the appearance of the town are the most pressing issues he wants to address.

This list is freakin embarrassing. Please do your homework! Number 1 I would agree with, and 2, and 5 might place in the top 10, but oh my God. There's so much great stuff out there that even a 5 minute search on YouTube would turn up that would blow most of these scenes out of the water. Richard Gear is a fine dancer, but he simply doesn't have the skills to go up against, say, Coles & Atkins for a list like this. It is sad that one of the great American art forms still gets to little rigor when it comes to journalism.

How are Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman featured on this list and Ann Miller and Vera-Ellen are not? Get it together!

P.S. to my comment:  correction -- the "whoever" is Samantha Grossman.  Sam:  find these two dancing and enjoy!

Hard to believe that whoever compiled this list has never seen Eleanor Powell and Fred Astaire together.   Start with Broadway Melody of 1940, "Begin the Biguine," but anything these two did together surpasses anything on this list, especially the Gene Kelly Singing' in the Rain, which wasn't really tap dancing anyway.

@roborose2 I'm with you, Roborose! Not only on using a Fred and Eleanor clip, (Perhaps replace the one of him in blackface? He has other fantastic solo dances, too....)  I also agree with you that there are better Gene clips than the title song from Singin' in the Rain. Moses Supposes? Fit as a Fiddle? the newspaper dance in Summer Stock? But beyond that,  even the pre-cursor that a clip is "less about showcasing tap dance as an art form, and more about showcasing two people falling in love," is a sign that it probably shouldn't be  in a list that you're calling the 10 Best Tap Dance Scenes in Film. I guess @sam_grossman was trying to showcase different individual performers and therefore didn't want any duplicate dancers, but I would have preferred some duplicates to a list that honors Richard Gere, Natalie Portman, or Michelle Williams as tap dancers.
