Alec Baldwin’s ‘Words With Friends’ Debacle
Plot: American Airlines Pilot Steve Rogers made an appearance on Weekend Update to apologize for kicking Alec Baldwin off his flight Wednesday. But in true SNL absurdist fashion, Captain Rogers was played by none other than SNL stalwart Alec Baldwin himself. He managed to fool no one, but Seth Meyers seemed reluctant to let Baldwin continue with his covert apology. Speaking as though it were a horrific occurrence, Rogers affords an air of gravitas to the situation, while expectedly continuing his trend of shaming American for their actions. The mustachioed captain, in a Southern drawl, explains that Words With Friends is a game for smart people and pokes fun at the “no cell phones on airplanes” rule.
Best Line: “Mr. Baldwin is an American treasure.”
Digital Short: Best Friends
Plot: A cutesy sing-song Digital Short appropriately made use of Katy Perry’s voice (as did many skits last night), but their “Two Best Friends” tune takes a turn for the worse. Starting off featuring her innocuous wintertime activities with best friend Andy Samberg, the caroling and movie-watching descend into the seedy underbelly of New York when they adopt a homeless man (Matt Damon) into their best friends crew. By the end, it’s a shock they’re not in jail and somehow manage to have dozens of “best friends,” thanks to a mad scientist they encounter.
Best Line: “We’re four best friends, who love holiday cheer, and huffing on gas fumes.”
