If you’re turning 30 today, take solace that you share the date with Kate Middleton. Because you certainly won’t get more attention than her today.
The Duchess of Cambridge came into this world on this date, 30 years ago. And her final night of her 20s was spent in London’s glittering West End, as she attended the London premiere of Steven Spielberg’s War Horse. And don’t think the famous director wasn’t extremely enthused by Kate and her hubby turning out. “It’s a very prestigious honor because they represent an entirely new era in British royalty that has the entire world excited, ” he said. “When they came to America, that was one of the most exciting events, I think, that we’ve enjoyed for some time, so it’s such an honor to be here in the U.K. to be able to meet them and to be able to show them, and all of us, War Horse.” And Spielberg went on to say that the movie had such an impact on Middleton that his own Kate — Capshaw, his wife — had to hand the Duchess a tissue during the screening.

Inevitably, before the film began, she turned many a head on the red carpet (including those of the horses, no doubt) by wearing a striking design by Alice Temperley, with the cream ensemble embroidered with black flower and leaf patterns. And ever the diligent husband, Prince William used an umbrella to keep that perfect head of hair drizzle-free from the overcast conditions.
As for her own big day on Monday, the official line is that Kate is keeping things “low-key and private” though there had been reports stating that she was going to see out her twenties with a 1980s inspired party, which would have included karaoke.
But low-key is not a term you’d associate with the rest of her year: in addition to the charity work that has recently come her way, she’ll be involved in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. (via People)
