It’s a question that comes up from time to time at cocktail parties or in college courses: Which of your possessions would you grab if there was a fire? Do you have any belonging worth risking your life for? For one of the victims of the Costa Concordia cruise ship crash, a violin was worth that risk.

The Costa Concordia cruise liner was run into the rocky shore of the Italian coast by Captain Francesco Schettino, who then abandoned ship. The massive vessel tilted on its side, partially submerging the ship and killing at least 11 of the more than 4,000 people on board. Among the victims is Sandor Feher, 38, of Budapest, who worked on the ship as an entertainer. According to an article in the Telegraph, Feher helped children into their life jackets before returning to his cabin to save the violin, with which he made his livelihood. The decision to retrieve his instrument delayed his departure, and ultimately may have cost him his life. He is now remembered for having a passion for music education, as evidenced by his video resume above, reported by CBS News.

Due to fears that bad weather and rough seas could shift the massive vessel and possibly send it plunging further underwater, efforts to secure the wreckage and search for possible survivors was suspended Wednesday, but operations resumed on Thursday.
