Whether they’re furthering their world domination or simply expanding their horizons, once thing’s for sure: the 25 Starbucks locations set to start serving alcohol are about to see a lot more evening activity.

Starbucks has been experimenting with selling beer and wine since October 2010, offering the items at several Seattle stores and one in Portland, Oregon. Now the coffee chain plans to extend the offerings to up to 25 more locations in Chicago, Atlanta, and Southern California by the end of the year.

The locations have been “carefully selected,” according to Starbucks’ senior vice president of U.S. operations, Clarice Turner. In a news release, she explained that the reason for the expansion of the menu is to offer a space for customers to come to after work, offering a “warm and inviting place to unwind and connect with the people they care about.” And what can help you unwind better than a glass of Pinot? Sometimes chamomile tea just won’t do.

There will also be accompanying bar-type snacks like fruit-and-cheese plates, “savory snacks” and focaccia with olive oil, for those customers who would like some substance with their drink.

Beers run $5 and will apparently suit “local customer tastes and preferences,” and glasses of wine range from $7 to $9. Beware, however, of less-than-venti sizes: Yelp reviews from the Seattle locations warn that the pours are less than generous.
