Best in Show — Then What?

Since the first show in 1877, hundreds of thousands of pooches have strutted their stuff in front of judges at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. These perfect pups have trainers, coaches, special diets, exercise routines, expert groomers — all for a shot at taking home the most coveted trophy. Only one dog a year can earn “Best in Show,” but NewsFeed wonders, what happens after the glory days?
2011 Top Dog: Hickory the Scottish Deerhound

Retiring immediately after her victory, the first Scottish Deerhound to take Best in Show in Westminster history became a mom this past fall. Owned by Virginia’s Dr. R. Scott and Cecilia Dove, “Champion Foxcliffee Hickory Wind” has nine four-month old puppies, according to the Daily Mail.
Vetstreet.com reports that she’s keeping her girlish figure by bounding across the family’s farm near Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains where she often chases bears.
“We live in wide-open territory, so there are lots of places for her to run and, of course, lots of things for her to chase,” Dr. Dove told Vetstreet.com.
