Shakira arrives at the 2011 Latin Recording Academy's Person of the Year tribute dinner and concert honoring her at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 9, 2011.

Apparently, “she wolves” and sea lions don’t get along. While Colombian singer Shakira was on vacation in Cape Town, South Africa, her nearly 14 million Twitter followers got some alarming news:

According to her “Special Report” on Facebook, the 34-year-old had approached a group of seemingly adorable sea lions to take some photos, but one got a little too close for comfort.  Shakira says the animal jumped up at her, “roared in fury” and tried to bite her — possibly mistaking the singer’s shiny Blackberry for a fish, she theorizes.

While the pop-music sensation was “paralyzed by fear,” her brother, whom she dubs “Super Tony,” acted quickly and rescued her. The pair scrambled across the rocks to escape, but not without some minor scrapes and bruises along the way.

The singer was unscathed enough to document the close encounter on Twitter and Facebook and didn’t shy away from the wildlife after the attack. Her Twitter feed is chock full of updates about wounded dolphins, baboons and friendly penguins.
