The Colbert Report’s abrupt break from regularly scheduled programming this week is reportedly due to an emergency in Stephen Colbert’s family.

Yesterday, Comedy Central reps said the Report canceled taping its Wednesday and Thursday shows this week, citing “unforeseen circumstances” as the cause. Later in the day, the Wall Street Journal cited people familiar with the show to say that the canceled tapings were due to a family emergency.

That report was followed up by the news that it was Colbert’s 91 year-old mother, Lorna, who was in an undetermined condition, the New York Post reported. She is said to be “seriously ill,” according to a source who spoke to the Huffington Post.

As of now the network hasn’t remarked further on the reports. “No new statement and we’re not commenting on any speculation,” Comedy Central spokesperson Steve Albani told NewsFeed via email.
