Two movies heading to the local cineplex are brainwashing American youth, according to Fox Business host Lou Dobbs. Citing the plotlines and underlying messages of The Secret World of Arrietty and Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, Dobbs claims the films are left-wing Hollywood’s latest attempt to “indoctrinate our children.”

“The President’s liberal friends in Hollywood [are] targeting a younger demographic using animated movies to sell their agenda to children,” Dobbs said on his program Tuesday night. Never mind that the plotlines and message of both books haven’t changed since they were originally published more than 30 years ago. Hollywood proves a much better target than bygone children’s novelists.

Arrietty is based on Mary Norton’s series of children’s novels, The Borrowers. The first book, published in 1952, tells the story of Arrietty, a “borrower” who takes what she and her family need from the “big people” for survival. To Dobbs, the story of an unlikely friendship between borrowers and “human beans” (a mispronunciation of human being) encourages redistribution of wealth and “demonizes the 1%.”

The Lorax is based on the classic Dr. Seuss novel of the same name. Dobbs accuses the film of pushing green-energy polices. If there is a child that can discuss the future of nuclear vs. clean coal, then Dobbs may be on to something. Don’t tell Dobbs, but since 2008, the Lorax Project encourages kids of all ages to get involved with conservation.

Steve Cochran, one of the three talk-radio personalities invited to join in, assures that there is no need for concern, “because I know the people in Hollywood and, frankly, they’re not that bright.”
