America’s 10 Most Popular Dog Breeds

For 21 years, the beloved Labrador Retriever has sat atop the American Kennel Club's most-popular list. But this past year, it received some stiff competition from some other adored (and adorable) breeds. See what breeds were named top dog this year.

I love all dogs, but this past year a pitbull killed a Chihuahua puppy and attacked a small child.  There are times when a dog needs to be euthanized and when they become killers and there is no place to rescue them or someone to train them, then an alternative needs to be discussed whether it be euthanasia, placed in a larged fenced in area.  When an adult or child is killed then euthanesia is the only alternative.

As a Dog lover and Dog owner all my life.  Beagles, Terriers,  Shelties, Chihuahuas, Golden Retriever and a couple of mixed breeds and I have to say while I loved them all my most beloved is the Golden Retriever.  Thee most loving dog you would ever want to meet.  My Golden Sulley is such an amazing companion. I will never have another breed.  So loving, so loving!

I have had 3 dogs in my lifetime.  Poodle - Mutt- Yorkie.  The mutt was amazingly friendly and lovable.  The Poodle was adorable but with my busy lifestyle found it hard to comb and brush hair on a regular basis.  I have a Yorkie who is incredibly friendly, easy to manage and hits my heart till no end.  I can't imagine having any other breed other than a Yorkie.  He actually saved my life while I was crushed between a wall and my car door.  He actually pushed my daughter out the door with his barking.  The barking 7 1/2 lb Yorkie is noted for hunting down rats.  An excellent watch dog.

Absolutely love my Golden Retriever.  He's my 3rd and is a great family dog.  However, with all the in-breeding that appears to be happening with this breed, he may be my last.  They are becoming very prone to cancer - some gene from what I hear from my vet.

I was surprised that it didn't make the list.  They are so affectionate and lovable.

The best dog is a mutt - don't pay for a dog from a breeder when there are so many good dogs out there.  My dog is a Great Labrapoo spaniel/Heinz 57 breed.  He is brilliant and loving and everything you would ever want in a dog and I know there are many more dogs out there like him who need a good home.

is this a joke? when i was in highschool i was brutally attacked by a flippin lab! why aren't pittbulls in on this top list? i would chose a pittbull over any of these breeds.... They are family oriented, great workout partners, very patient, loving, and protective of their owners!

and where did that mean person go? i have a couple of things to inform him about the word "pittbulls" since he wanted to try to get technical on me... AS a matter of fact the term Pittbulls come from dumb ass people that categorize these differents breed as one... for example any dog with a square head and broad shoulders which are american bulldogs, staffordshire bull terriers, american staffordshire bull terriers.... pretty much any type of bull terrier is categorized as a "pittbull" :)
