A failing report card got a South Florida student a very public punishment.

Michael Bell Jr. spent several hours on a busy Miami street corner wearing a sign that read “Hey, I want to be a class clown. Is it wrong?” on the front and “I’m in the 7th grade and got 3 F’s. Blow your horn if there’s something wrong with that” on the back. Bell’s father, Michael Bell Sr told Fox affiliate WSVN the punishment was his last resort. “I don’t know any other way, I’m trying to reach him,” he said.

Maybe Bell’s parents were inspired by a fellow Floridian — Tampa mom Ronda Holder, who last year forced her son 15-year-old son to stand on a street corner with a sign displaying his 1.22 GPA. As for Michael, while his classmates enjoy spring break, the seventh grader will continue to wear the sign. The plan seems to be working; he told the news station he plans to “do better” once classes are back in session.
