Even after Amanda Clayton won $1 million in the Michigan State Lottery in September of last year, she continued to take food assistance from the state.
She told an incredulous local news reporter that she “thought that they would cut me off, but since they didn’t, I thought maybe it was OK because I’m not working,” and when asked whether she had a right to welfare benefits, she simply looked bemused, saying, “I mean. I kinda do.”
