Welcome to Nobson Newtown, where your everyday dissatisfaction with the modern world transforms into suffocating revulsion at the unrelenting cavern of bleakness we call life, and the people are shaped like pieces of poo.
That’s the dystopian metropolis explored by Paul Noble, who populates his elaborately drawn depictions of Nobson with unmistakably scatological figures. Noble, 48, a London-based painter, has been exploring society through his Nobson drawings and sculptures for over 15 years, a perserverance that according to the Guardian makes him “the frontrunner.” He’s represented by the Gagosian Gallery.
