What happens if instead of supersizing some fries, you decide to supersize an entire McDonald’s?
London is letting out its trousers in preparation to host the world’s biggest McDonald’s restaurant, set to open on the site of this summer’s Olympic Games. According to the Daily Mail, the new location – one of four stores opening – will seat 1,500 people and is about half the size of a football stadium. That’s more than 30,000 sq. ft. of Big Macs, fries and milkshakes. Looks like the current record-holder, a McDonald’s in Orlando, Fla., should get ready to pass the torch.
While it might seem weird to have that much saturated fat in the midst of hundreds of highly trained mega-athletes, McDonald’s has been a sponsor of the Olympics since 1968. This year’s Summer Games will be the ninth consecutive time that the fast food chain has served as the event’s official restaurant and “the only branded food retailer feeding… athletes.” Unsurprisingly, the planned opening has upset a group of British doctors, who say that the mega-McDonald’s sends the wrong message about obesity.
