SNL veteran Will Ferrell returned this week with a special Mother’s Day monologue — and even brought his mother on set with him. Hoping to dedicate some kind, genuine remarks to Mama Ferrell, he announced he was ditching the cue cards and speaking from the heart. “I’m not so great with words,” he explained. “Other people write a lot of what I say.” He bumbled through a wildly (and purposefully) inarticulate speech, which came straight from his “brain place” and out his “mouth hole.” As he expressed his gratitude for all his mother had done for him, he managed to sneak in a quip about this week’s highly divisive TIME cover:
“You made milk for me, like the lady from the cover of the TIME Magazine.”
