Candadian police announced Wednesday that they believe the two grisly packages sent to Vancouver-area schools are the work of suspected killer Luka Rocca Magnotta.

Montreal police Commander Ian Lafreniere announced Wednesday that his department is taking over the investigation of the severed hand and foot that were sent to the two schools Tuesday, saying they believe Rocca is behind the packages. The 29-year-old, who was arrested in Berlin on Monday, is currently awaiting extradition for the murder of Concordia University student Jun Lin. Although Lafreniere did not point to specific evidence linking Rocca to the Vancouver incidents, he said his department believes the body parts are connected to Lin’s death.

“Right now, we got no reason to believe there could be someone else involved in this horrible crime,” said Lafreniere told CNN.

Lin’s murder first made headlines when packages containing parts of his then-unidentified body were sent to the headquarters of two major Canadian political parties. His discarded torso was subsequently discovered stuffed in suitcase in Montreal outside the apartment of his boyfriend, a porn actor named Luka Rocco Magnotta. By the time a grisly video of Lin’s murder and dismemberment — thought to have been posted by Magnotta — was discovered online, Magnotta had fled the country. He made his way to France and then Berlin, where he was spotted and arrested by German police.
