This photo of an Army officer, his epaulettes forever glinting silver, was found on a battlefield near Richmond. It’s impossible to tell what side the officer was fighting on, as high-ranking members from the South often wore standard U.S. Army uniforms before the Civil War broke out. There are no markings or notations that indicate the officer’s name or affiliation, so the museum is hoping the public can identify him.
