Don’t get too freaked: experts say there’s no chance of a full-on collision. But do get a little freaked, because those same experts say this could be the closest encounter with a potentially hazardous asteroid in modern history. NASA projects that on April 13, 2029, we’ll be able to go outside, look up, and see a bright light gliding through the sky. In other words, we’ll see asteroid 2004 MN4 just missing us. Scientists predict it will come so close that Earth’s gravitational pull will bend its orbit. Freaky indeed, but we should be considering ourselves lucky: if the asteroid did strike Earth, it could devastate a region roughly the size of Texas.
