It’s Official: Black Eyed Peas Have The Worst Lyrics Ever

The Black Eyed Peas might be on a hiatus at the moment, but they’re still at the top of the charts. Just maybe not the type of chart they’d hoped for.

According to Fuse, when dance music festival Global Gathering asked voters to pick the dance song they thought had “the most ridiculous” lyrics, the four-piece group topped the poll with over 22% of votes for their multi-platinum selling 2006 single “My Humps.”

With such classic lyrics as “Mix your milk with my cocoa puff/ Milky, milky cocoa/ Mix your milk with my cocoa puff/ Milky, milky riiiiiiight,” NewsFeed is inclined to agree.

Piped to the top spot was “Nassaja” by German Europop group Scooter, which features the lines, “It’s not a bird, it’s not a plane/ It must be Dave, who’s on the train.”

In at number three were nineties pop act the Vengaboys with “Up And Down,” whose lyrics are composed almost entirely of the phrase “up and down,” repeated endlessly.

British rapper Tinie Tempah, who bragged, “I got so many clothes I keeps ‘em in my aunt’s house” in his 2010 hit “Pass Out”, came fourth. Ironically, he’s one of this year’s headliners at the festival.

OK, sure, so song lyrics are not exactly extracted from Kant's Critique of Pure Reason...but, sometimes, simplicity can be effective.  Johnny Cochran dazzled the jury with "if it doesn't fit, you must acquit."  Worked for O. J.

I agree, simple can be effective and even beautiful. But these lyrics are just plain dumb.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Black Eyed Peas, but with songs like this I just listen to the beat and ignore the lyrics.

I've hung out with them a few times before they became superstars right before the original female left. They're super nice people and don't come off as stupid. BUT, the last time I was hanging around she (original female singer) was bitching them out (I didn't want to intrude and listen) and from reading interviews with her... it was probably about not selling out. After she left they became a cheese fest.

Only Pitbull comes close to achieving the level of lyrical holocaust that the Black Eyed Peas normally achieve.

With rare exception, pop music lyrics are best left unread. I can't tell you how many times I've googled the lyrics of a song only to be struck dumb by how off-hand or unintelligible they are.
