Mujtaba Jabbar, a 25-year-old medical student, was charged with fatally shooting 62-year-old Paul Schrum at a screening of X-Men 3: The Last Stand on June 15, 2006. According to the Baltimore Sun, Schrum and Jabbar were in a theater with only five other people. Schrum chose a seat near the back and Jabbar sat a row behind him. A half-hour into the movie, Jabbar pulled out a .357-caliber revolver and fired it into the right side of Schrum’s head, arm and chest. He then walked into the lobby of the theater, placed his gun on the counter and told the manager of the theater to call 911 because he had just killed someone. Jabbar then sat down and waited for police to arrive. When police arrive he told them, “I killed someone because I was mad.” Though Jabbar was convicted of first-degree murder, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was found not criminally responsible for the killing.
