James Holmes makes his first court appearance, at the Arapahoe County courthouse in Centennial, Colo., on July 23, 2012

UPDATED: 12:15 p.m. EDT

The accused Aurora gunman reportedly spat at jail officers so often that he was forced to wear a spit guard at one point.

Holmes’ bizarre habit is just one of several that he has displayed since his arrest for the shooting rampage during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in a Colorado movie theater that killed 12 and wounded 58 last Friday.

In the hours after his arrest Friday for the massacre at the Aurora, Colo., movie theater, Holmes stared at the wall in the Arapahoe Police Headquarters with his eyebrows twitching.

Then, Holmes allegedly told police he was Batman’s villain the Joker. When cops put evidence bags over his hands to preserve traces of gunpowder residue, he pretended the bags were puppets, law enforcement sources told ABC News affiliate KMGH-TV in Denver.

The public got its first glimpse into his behavior during his court appearance Monday, where he looked alternately dazed and bug-eyed while occasionally nodding with his eyes appearing to close. Holmes is unmissable, currently sporting a head of bright-orange dyed hair — which he reportedly told authorities he dyed to look like the Joker villain in Batman films, even though the Joker’s hair is typically green.

And now, Arapahoe County Jail officers told ABC News that Holmes spits at them so much that they have to use a spit guard on Holmes while moving him. These antics are just the latest in findings that contradict the initial profile of him as an unassuming former graduate student.

Marissa Randazzo, former chief research psychologist for the U.S. Secret Service and an expert in mass shootings, told Good Morning America today that there are several possible explanations for Holmes’ recent behaviors. “One is that he is in the middle of a psychotic episode which is quite possible. We see him distracted at multiple points, an almost sort of ‘coming to’ and trying to figure out where he is and process what’s going on,” she said.

“The other thing that we’re seeing — and we’ve seen some of this behavior in the past couple months — might suggest mania. Meaning hyperactivity, hyper energy, been possibly up and not sleeping for days. What we might be seeing here is the post effects.” Randazzo said a third possibility is that Holmes, a former neuroscience student, is faking mental symptoms he likely learned during his studies.

UPDATE: Looks like Holmes’ actions are just as mysterious as the man himself. ABC’s Denver affiliate now disputes the spitting reports and states that Holmes has maintained his low-key demeanor since incarceration.

“[C]ontrary to what some media organizations have reported, our sources say in the past 48-hours Holmes has been calm and docile in jail, just like he was in court,” CALL7 Investigator John Ferrugia says. “There have been no outbursts at all as he is in isolation.”

I wonder if he can fake death as well. Maybe we should find out...

What annoying me is that there are girls out there who thinks that this man is 'cute' and 'funny'. WHAT THE F.

If someone is being socially abused,

psychiatric problems being a consequence of abuse, because one just

happens to be a bit different, he gets no help whatsoever, just more

bullying. Being institutionalised and medicated is seen as help,

whereas it is simply more abuse. The social delusion is that he is

being prevented from self harm, whereas it is fear of social harm,

that he might go berserk, without ANY PROVOCATION WHATSOEVER that is

the motivation.  In actual fact there has been ENORMOUS

provocation. Yet peers see an admission OF abuse to the abused as a

provocation, whereas it is NOT admitting what is so obvious that is

the provocation. They were just teasing, good natured stuff, is as

far as anyone will go. NOONE will lift a finger to help in just a

very small way, a phone call or a letter taking the side of the

abused, the attitude being 'Why should I, I've gone out of my way to

help that ungrateful bastard.' GOT to be a conspiracy.

The media is not the least interested

in social issues coming from the patient, just some Professor of

Psychiatry WHO HASN'T GOT A BLOODY CLUE because he hasn't been

through psychosis himself, but he has the prestige of a PhD so he

must know something. The media doesn't want to be seen as lacking

intellectual integrity, many journos having Degrees of one kind or

another. Meanwhile the patient may have come to the end of his

tether, suffering dreadfully, homeless, friendless, delusional and

sick. There is NO solidarity among the psychotic as they are afraid

of the consequences of supporting one another.

Now totally pessimistic of any help or

compassion coming from anywhere on Earth, otherwise psychosis would

not exist, and filled with a justified hatred for society, the

psychotic has no compunctions about taking a number of people with

him if he is going to suicide. Alternatively he knows that the media

is ONLY interested in VIOLENCE, as are it's readers, viewers and

listeners. No violence, no publicity as to what abuse he has

suffered all his life, abuse which is TOTALLY denied by society which

CANNOT see itself AS abusive.

But he knows by now that it can't be

any old act of violence as he'll just get locked up and it might only

make a local rag. It has to be something BIG, HUGE even to capture

headlines, WORLD headlines. Only then will he come under such close

analysis and scrutiny that society will begin to believe him.

However, in his delusions he believes that he will actually be

forgiven for killing a number of people because he HAD to in order to

highlight abuse. He will be saving vastly more lives in the long run

once society takes heed and make the huge changes necessary to

eliminate ALL violence because there will be no more INCENTIVE to

violence.. However, should the powerful status quo be intractable,

then his act will start a violent revolution which will overthrow

said status quo and he will be released from prison by the

revolutionaries. Well, that's what his delusions say.

Enter Holmes. A lot of media scrutiny

to start off with but it is derailed for 3 reasons. 1 Sloppy

journalism making it difficult to get the precise facts. 2

Suppression by the legal system and University making it impossible

to get the facts. 3 Interest has fizzled out. I saw this massacre

as salvation for myself as I've now had 65 years of abuse and NOT

ONCE has anyone in all those years lifted a finger to help me, except

for belated attempts by my mother to side with me against the

violence of my father. I go onto web site after web site 8 hrs a day

gathering all of the information, try to be as accurate as possible,

and write sensible, enlightened, apolitical posts and have not got

ONE SINGLE REPLY.

If I had spat out hatred or talked

about stricter gun controls or enforced medication, sure plenty of

replies probably. But no, as I appear to be sympathetic toward

Holmes. Well I bloodywell AM. I watched the video of him in court

the other day and I broke down. 'I though, Jesus, James, what have

they done to you?' He is TOTALLY psychotic, a little kid who has

never been able to grow up. Brilliant at learning by ROTE to get his

degree in Neurobiology but almost unable to function on the most

basic level socially, hence being unable to get a job, ANY job, in

his field. He cannot function in this world. His world is that of

the videogame, indoors where it's safe. That is where he LIVES, like

US soldiers in Afghanistan. For all we know, by the time of the

massacre he was so psychotic that the audience in the theater may

have been aliens from another planet come to take over the world.

Check ALL of the blogs. He is already

a martyr, a hero to the abused and disenfranchised, especially those

who see him as a patsy, been set up by powerful forces, CIA, FBI, the

Pentagon etc., perhaps to disarm the population by getting a tide of

support from the anti-gun lobby. That's the way the Gun Lobby, NRA

is seeing it. Yet there is plenty of REAL evidence of atrocities

committed by these Government groups to feed this cynicism and

paranoia.

Widespread social unrest is the very

last thing the US needs right now, given the near terminal state of

it's economy. There is plenty to feed this unrest without adding

Jimmy to the mix. He might just be the catalyst that lights the

fuse. Wall St. is on a knife's edge now.

He planned this out meticulously over a long period of time. And NOW he's not in control of his behavior? He's playing us. And there's a cure for that.

The mob mentality and cash payments for "insider" tidbits make this whole situation such a sick carnival. The real clowns are the politicians lining up to make their careers over 12 dead people. This case will be tried according to a set script and any inconvenient facts and evidence will be simply left out, amid cries of "kill the monster!" from the pious, self-righteous mob who is delighted with having a bogeyman to hang their hate upon. Whole thing is vomitous.

Certainly bears a striking resemblance to the utter lies fed to us about Columbine.

Harris and Klebold, trenchcoat mafia, losers, introverts, insert disassociative nonscience pablum here...

Try honors students, perfect attendance, bowling team addicts who held down jobs, were accepted to colleges and had prom dates.  Oh, and Eric Harris was a full-blown psychopath.  But, we'll just ignore that little insignificant detail.

No one wants to accept that the human brain is not infallible.  I'm not crazy, so someone else's clearly unbalanced behavior must be the work of demonic possession, new traffic patterns, Sharia or something else entirely unrelated and ridiculous.

Mental healthcare in the U.S. is a joke.  And this is what happens.  Add the recent unbelievably high gun sales to evangelical-fed paranoia and Colorado sounds like it's becoming the new headquarters for public slaughter.

Wow, speaking of looking for someone to hang your hate on. . .

The ability to reason separates us from lower animals. If you believe everything you read, that's aces with me. I was simply commenting on how ridiculous the reporting and grandstanding is in this case. As you say, his guilt seems clear enough, so why all the sealing of evidence, why the total silence on facts that leads to media outlets quoting jail cleaners as though they were experts? It the truth is so very clear then why not have out with it? To protect an investigation whose outcome is, according to you, so obvious? And if the sight of those politicians congratulating each other for their own goodness doesnt sicken you, then i can't help you. incidentally, unless you were there and have facts to give me, your opinion on the case means little, regardless of how loudly and profanely you speak it.

Possessed by demons - we're providing demons with easily obtained lethal weapons. Oh well, I guess the all-hallowed Second Amendment applies to demons too, if they're legal residents.

Does it matter if it's true or not? Seriously, consider the rag you're reading. Poor, misunderstood Jimmy Holmes, could have a grenade stuffed up his cornhole, pull the plug in the chow hall killing 30 people, and this rag would report that he ought to have been allowed to go home on account that the 2nd Amendment should be overturned, and thus he's not liable of any crime. Pathetic shytrag.
