Ashley Moser, the mother of the youngest victim killed in the Dark Knight Rises movie theater shooting, has lost her unborn child in a miscarriage as a result of her shooting injuries. Moser is one of 11 victims still recovering in the hospital after a shooter opened fire at a theater in the Denver suburb of Aurora on July 20. The rampage left 58 people injured and 12 dead, including Moser’s 6-year-old daughter, Veronica.

Moser, who’d been preparing to begin nursing school, suffered gunshot wounds to her neck and abdomen. The extreme trauma she sustained led to a miscarriage, her family said in a statement Saturday. The 25-year-old’s “lifetime of care will be a long road,” the Moser family said. In the meantime, funeral arrangements for Veronica are still pending.

The miscarriage, however, had no effect on the charges against alleged shooter James Holmes, the New York Times reports. Colorado’s homicide laws apply only to a person who is “born and was alive” at the time of the crime — fetuses are specifically excluded from the state’s definition. On Monday, the alleged gunman James Holmes was charged with 24 counts of murder and 116 counts of attempted murder.

The Moser family’s statement encouraged people to go to any Wells Fargo bank and give to the “Donation Account for Ashley and Veronica Moser” to assist Moser in her recovery. Denver-area hospitals have also announced that they plan to waive or significantly reduce medical bills for shooting victims.
