A Manhattan doctor was arraigned Thursday after he was caught allegedly taking video up a woman’s skirt on the New York City subway Wednesday evening, the Wall Street Journal reports. The doctor, Adam W. Levinson, works as an award-winning urologist at Mount Sinai Medical Center and as an assistant professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine.
Levinson, 39, allegedly used a tiny pen camera attached to a newspaper to film up the woman’s skirt on a southbound No. 4 train. Sheldon Birthwright, a minister, told the Journal he first noticed Levinson moving the newspaper, and then he realized a pen was affixed to it. Birthwright, 46, trailed Levinson off the train at the Union Square station, where the doctor allegedly continued to follow other subway riders with his covert camera.
Birthwright found a transit officer at the station and explained the situation. Levinson was briefly lost in the crowd, but law-enforcement officials found him and took him into custody. After seizing the device, officers allegedly found “numerous clips in which the defendant recorded underneath said female’s skirt,” according to a criminal complaint.
At his arraignment on Thursday, Levinson was charged with second-degree unlawful surveillance, a felony that could carry a four-year jail sentence, with bail set at $5,000. In the meantime, Mount Sinai has suspended him, pending the outcome of the case.
