Ringo Starr was not a "session drummer".  He was a local celebrity with his own group and was known for his flamboyant personality and stylish musicality.  He had a following already, gave off a star persona, and fit the BIG egos of Lennon and McCartney better than the modest and retiring Pete Best.

Ringo, on the original album recordings, was considered too loose in his drumming style for the studio bigwigs and HE was replaced by a  "session drummer".

Producer and "fifth Beatle", George Martin (who played uncredited keyboards on several of their hits),  later apologized to Ringo for this insult to his musicianship.
