MSNBC Anchor Melissa Harris-Perry’s Home Destroyed By Hurricane Isaac

Sometimes nature has a cruel sense of humor. On Sunday, to mark the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, anchor Melissa Harris-Perry eagerly gave a televised tour of the New Orleans home she and her husband recently bought. The grand house in New Orleans 7th ward was destroyed and abandoned during Hurricane Katrina. Stunningly, just two days later, the house no longer stands, succumbing this time to Hurricane Isaac.

She told viewers during her MSNBC show Sunday that she was planning to restore the home. Sure, it may have been lacking many of the structural details people look for in homes, such as all four walls — this home had only three, and the interior lay in complete rot. But Harris-Perry expressed excitement at the prospect of the restoration. “It’s just a physical thing, yet it represents so much more than that,” she told viewers during her MSNBC tour. “It’s also a symbol of hope.” Unfortunately, Hurricane Isaac finished what Katrina started. On Tuesday, Harris-Perry tweeted that her home had been destroyed by the storm as it passed through New Orleans.

During her tour of the tattered home, the Tulane University political science professor dubbed the restoration project an “extreme home makeover.”  Seven years after the catastrophic levee failure that devastated the city, Hurricane Isaac has once again battered the city with rain and floods. A substantial portion of Harris-Perry’s house was destroyed. The photo she tweeted Tuesday shows much of the back half of the home laying in a pile of rubble. She wrote that she was “feeling sad,” but the “House was vacant except for my dreams.”

Harris-Perry said Sunday: “If you just glance at [the home], all you see is the destruction. But if you pause and look at the bones of it … you see that there’s real life here.” Hopefully this time around, she’ll find the same comfort amid the destruction.

Ms. Perry, you and many others seem to forget the power of the Internet, as  you spin your stories to the Public.  It didn't take long to access the records showing this home, that "she and her husband just purchased" was actually bought by her husband, well before Katrina in Feb. 2000, while she was still early into her first marriage.  She married Mr. Perry in 2010.  So instead of blaming everything and everyone else about the condition of your neighborhoods, my question would be - "Why, in 12 years of ownership, why was this property left to stand as blight and continue to deteriorate?"

Well, I guess this solves her problem of living in a neighborhood where people get shot every day!  Here she is preaching to us about how we HAVE to furnish a safety net for those who live in poverty - what possible program could we add to make it easier for these folks to stay right where they are and get their check every single month?  Poverty in America is a walk in the park compared to other countries and she well knows it!!  I bet her neighbors are truly excited about the fact that she has enough money of her own to "show them" just how much she cares by investing in a local house!!!   Here is the perfect example of where someone on the Left thinks those on the RIGHT need to sacrifice more while she spends HER money on herself!!!!!

So she is planning on spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to restore a house "in the hood" as a symbol of hope for those who live around her . . . . yeah right!!!

Very similar to the style of home our Presbyterian group stayed in while there after Katrina.  So sorry for you and yours.

Really? How are two natural disasters one mans fault? You know Obama is in office right now and that is when the house fell. So shouldn't it be his fault? If a natural disaster is anyone fault. Oh and by the way I praise

Melissa Harris-Perry for seeing something she could do and she went to go do it. Not blaming the problem on someone else like a coward.

And EXACTLY what did she do???  Do you thinking buying a house "in the hood" to fix up as an inspiration to her neighbors is helping them?  Get a grip . . . she is spending her money on HERSELF.  If she truly wanted to help them, she would support a program - funded by HER - that might make a difference!!!  You make me laugh!!!!

Her rant was totally out of line, and for you to pretend otherwise is disgusting!!!  She might as well have called her guest a "racist" because that is what those on the Left do the best!!!!  Have you figured it out yet . . . that quit working about the 2nd month of this President's term because we had heard the term so much!!!!!

By the way, she did NOT lose her "house" because she didn't live there!!!
