What a shame there is no national agenda (charles harris) and doesn't that just hit the nail on the head. Both parties seem so extreme these days and our Congress so incredibly ineffective (they're too busy peeing on each other's trees to actually get any work done) that I have yet to have a conversation with anyone who is pro one party or the other.
If Obama remains President - we are likely to end up so far in debt that we may never ever recover but if he succeeds - more people will have the opportunity to go to college, our citizens will have insurance coverage, and the millions of people who are now homeless or close to homeless may not have to live under bridges until the economy rebounds. On the other hand, of all those people to receive these benefits a significant number will be illegal aliens who if we were not paying for them - would ease our debt significantly in the first place. AND there is no fear from any illegal immigrant in America of being chastised for carrying around Mexican flags and touring the country shouting WE ARE ILLEGAL - WE HAVE RIGHTS! There' something seriously wrong with that picture.
On the other hand, if the Republicans take back everything (and yes, Obama inherited this bus when it was already plunging off the cliff under the leadership of the Republicans), then Corporate America (which has taken such advantage of this recession to manipulate lower wages, fewer benefits, higher costs, and massive layoffs in exchange for multi-million dollar bonses) will only grow stronger and with even less oversight. Banks will rejoice and the sins of their ongoing greed quickly forgotten. Those of US without jobs may be living under bridges and those who can afford to contribute more, who made their riches right here in this country, will not have any responsibility for stepping up in our time of need.
Eventually, one hopes, we will recover but right now the real ? is - who will mitigate this recovery so that it does the least damage and rebuilds the strongest foundation? The Democrats could do the least damage, the Republicans could build the best foundation.
But as it stands today, our Congress is so busy marking trees - any President it seems will be ineffective. There's nothing scarier than a 2nd term President with nothing to lose if we are already concerned with his lack of direction and behind the scenes policy changes; except maybe a first term President who has yet to prove he's got the backbone to be there.
I don't know and it concerns me. I'm still waiting for the President who says, yeah - we can close the loopholes on the uber rich - they can handle it for this time of need for their country. And yeah, let's put some teeth into the immigration issue perhaps by both allowing more legals in and moving more illegals out. And for sure, for sure a President who says - Corporate America pay attention - you think u can afford to make your riches here and then move to cheaper countries to keep it? Watch this - the rest of the world cannot make up for what you will lose in purchasing options. You want to sell here from there? Not a problem, but trust me bubba - its gonna cost you big time. Lets see how long that takes for you to feel it. I'm willing to wait it out - are u?

The Romney camp certainly didn't do Mr. Romney a favor by having Clint Eastwood ramble nearly incoherently for 12 minutes. Eastwood needed to be either be on script, or not on the stage. What a horrible thing to put on national TV when the video of Mrs. Romney whould have so much more appropriate and persuasive.
