Sure, we all know about the marijuana-smoking photos of Phelps on the campus of the University of South Carolina following his eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. But despite the tabloid photos, no actual arrest resulted from his actions, just a lost sponsorship and a suspension from USA Swimming. What did get him arrested was for driving under the influence of alcohol in Maryland in November 2004. Then 19, Phelps pled guilty and was forced to speak to high school students about the dangers of driving drunk. He was also put on probation and paid a small fine.
