A high school student was taking a very public stand against bullying — when he got bullied.

Preston Deener, a sophomore at Brunswick High School in Maryland, was recording an interview with a local television channel about his experience with bullying when he was attacked by fellow students on camera. “The student came up to me and pushed me out of the way and said ‘What are you recording?'” Preston told WHAG-TV. “All of sudden, the student was chasing me and I needed some help.” Deener ran to find assistance from the school’s administration. “I was shocked,” WHAG reporter Katie Kyros told the Huffington Post, speaking of the attack. “They didn’t even care that I was standing there and yelling at them.”

The Frederick County, Md. student now takes his bullying issues to administrators, but he learned this lesson the hard way. Last week, Deener was suspended for three days because he fought back against a bully. After the most recent incident, his mother, Cheryl Deener, is hoping the school will take a more serious look into the bullying. Michael Doerrer of the Frederick County Public Schools told WHAG-TV that while they don’t comment specifically on bullying cases because of privacy issues, “A full investigation is step number one, to find out what’s going on and what happened.”

According to WHAG, Deener and his mother are organizing an anti-bullying dance on Friday night. In the meantime, Deener is continuing his battle against bullying with sheer optimism. “You’ve got to have one heart and stand up for someone who’s getting bullied, and it needs to stop.”

I expect that the school will suspend the kid who was bullied, for hurting the hands of the bullies that were hitting him in the head. We really need smarter educators.

The best way to stop bullying is a right cross.

The modern school system is too PC, and too soft on bullies.  Bullies are given all the process rights when an incident is investigated, and the victims are often marginalised, or told they have contributed to the problem.  It's time to get really tough on bullies -they should be suspended or expelled from school if a bullying incident is proved.  Suspension for a first offence, expulsion for a second.

"Last week, Deener was suspended for three days because he fought back against a bully."

Nothing like compounding injury with more injury--no kid should be punished for defending himself.

Adults need to stop kowtowing to their children.  Let them know their place, and they won't behave this way in public.

Either that or the bully comes at you with a knife next time.

People who are predisposed to be "bullies" at a young age are only going to be social parasites later -- either outright criminals or crypto-sociopaths who take out their antiscocial behavior on unsuspecting and often helpless victims in the neighborhood, the workplace, or the bedroom. When "the bully comes at you with a knife" he should be imprisoned, since prison is where a large percentage of them will end up anyway -- and probably where a far larger percentage deserves to be.

Why not?  No matter how much we talk about bullying, it won't help.  Kids have always been mean, cruel, and vicious. Most parents don't believe that their child is capable of being a bully.

You don't get even with your bullies at school.  You vandalize their parent's homes, automobiles and businesses in the dead of night.  Make them feel your pain...in their wallets.

They're being bullied for what? looking different, weak, retard?

Well, I think bullies are the ones who need help, they're sick.  America, where is your liberty if you can best express it by making fun of other people to look and feel better about yourself?  I hope you won't let bully population or cases grow up, it's really sad.

I am glad I live in a country where bullying isn't very popular over respect.
