Shotgun weddings aren’t exactly what they sound like, but this shotgun engagement stands pretty true to its name.

A jeweler in Iowa is offering a “buy an engagement ring, get a free shotgun” deal for the month of October. Jewelry by Harold in North Liberty, Iowa, will give a voucher for a free Remington 870 gun to every customer who spends $1,999 or more on an engagement ring before October 31.

Inspired by a similar deal at a Georgia jeweler, Jewelry by Harold owner Harold van Beek also dreamed up the ploy to drum up word-of mouth support for his year-old business.

“We hope people know about the crazy jeweler in North Liberty that does crazy things,” he told KCRG News. Hopefully, the ring-buyers are more fun-loving than crazy, unlike the jeweler. Van Beek is governing his deal by this principle. “Fun is more important than anything else, we try to put some fun in it,” he added. “Hunting season is coming up, I thought this is cool, so let’s do something for the boy who doesn’t like to hunt for diamonds, but likes to hunt for deer.”

Of course, those who’ve previously used a gun for nefarious purposes will be denied the deal. All potential gun owners are subject to Iowa state gun laws, which prohibit felons and addicts from owning a firearm.

The Remington 870 is the best-selling shotgun in history. Perhaps this deal will make it the most romantic one, as well.
