Why Is Joss Whedon Supporting Mitt Romney? Hint: Zombies

"The Avengers" director and onetime Obama fan is stocking up on canned goods and throwing his support to Mitt Romney.

The three debates leading up to this year’s presidential election covered a lot of topics: the economy, the war in Afghanistan, health care policy. However one of the key issues on many Americans’ minds was completely overlooked in the presidential debates: the threat of a zombie apocalypse. Luckily, filmmaker Joss Whedon is here to remind us all what’s at stake.

The director of The Avengers and creator of shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel has been a supporter of Barack Obama’s, but after careful consideration, Whedon said in the brief video he posted on YouTube, he’s now betting on Romney. Why switch sides? Apparently Whedon really wants to see a zombie apocalypse — and thinks Romney is the candidate to get us there.

Here are some of the highlights from the video above in which Whedon lays out his case:

You know, like a lot of liberal Americans, I was excited when Barack Obama took office four years ago. But it’s a very different world now, and Mitt Romney is a very different candidate — one with the vision and determination to cut through business-as-usual politics and finally put this country back on the path to the zombie apocalypse.

Romney is ready to make the deep rollbacks in health care, education, social services, reproductive rights, that will guarantee poverty, unemployment, overpopulation, disease, rioting — all crucial elements in creating a nightmare zombie wasteland. But it’s his commitment to ungovern corporate privilege that will nosedive this economy into true insolvency and chaos. The kind of chaos you can’t buy back.

If Mitt takes office, sooner or later the zombies will come for all of us.

I would like to say that the writer of this article took the wrong impression from the video. In the description of the video, posted on youtube, it states "Please visit http://www.barackobama.com/ to support the candidate who won't bring about the zombie apocalypse." Whedon is in no way supporting Romney in this video, he is condemning him. I think your article needs some revision because there are a few holes. I won't state a 5 point analysis but I think if you actually watched this video you would see that this was under no circumstance a vote or endorsement for Mitt Romney. Whedon has stated before that he supports Obama so why would he change his tune now? Just some food for thought before you have another article with non factual statements. :]

I loved Whedon's reasons for voting for Romney.  Hilarious.  However, I can't figure out why no ones talking about the fact that a super crazy super prominent evil billionaire just came out and endorsed Romney.  I can't tell if this ad is real or fake, but I love it and am terrified by it http://bit.ly/Q4vu69

As a middle class American, Romney is the LAST person I want as President. I wanted to be fair and give him a chance, but by the third debate he lied and flip flopped so much on the issues that I thought for a moment President Obama was speaking. And, more importantly, I do not believe he wants to win to make this country better... I think he wants to win to boot the Black man out of office. During the Obama Administration, I don't know of one instance where Romney and his Republican constituents tried to work TOGETHER with this President for the GOOD of our COUNTRY!!! They have been on a mission for his demise from the beginning... That's NOT Patriotic and that's NOT indicative of someone who has this country's BEST interest at heart. It is my prayer and my belief that President Obama will have a second term. OBAMA/BIDEN 2012

The reason Mr. Wheadon is EAGER for the apocalypse is that he was bitten by Mr. Obama at the last fundraiser and is now designated to lead the charge FOR Mr. Obama.  What Mr. Whedon doesn't realize is that Buffy and the Scooby Gang are waiting for him .. right outside his door.   Should be interesting.  My money's on Buffy.

@MarkGiovanniSandore @ChrisCopeland You are enumerating the Zombie Charge Battalion leaders?  If you are it's going to be a very strange charge since all of them will be veering deeper and deeper to the left.  Leave them alone and they'll make a clockwise circle???

BTW, every socialist from hollywood that comes out with their political nonsense loses conservative baby boomer fans/box office customers and good will to go along with it. see how bright eva longoria's star shines the next year or so .... and this one hit bum, Joss Whedon, he'll be working the soup lines in hollywood, soon enough.

@MarkGiovanniSandore He isn't a one hit wonder - in fact just about everything he has done has achieved cult status. Give the guy a break, lighten up a bit - and know he's PROBABLY the guy they have marked to direct Star Wars 7. Get used to the idea.

Heck, I voted for Obama the first time because I figured he'd get the deficit to 20 trillion with his entitlements, and maybe get us into a depression with his stimulus, but then he did Obamacare and just created a 3rd nightmare, so how disappointed do you think I was when he could only ratchet the deficit up 6 trillion to 16 ...... and that we're only in a recession and not a depression ...very, my friends. Very disappointed.

Do mostly-dead, elderly, white people (Mitt's main demographic) count as zombies?

MarkGiovanniSandore
MarkGiovanniSandore

@GwenEams No actually those old white people are pretty clued in, they're my parents, and the middle class white baby boomers are also in that category of NO MORE OBAMA, and we're not zombies either, and come to think of it, my 6 children, aged 14 to 30, are not voting for Obama either, and they're afraid of Zombies. Lastly, every churched black person I know is campaigning for Romney, granted, I only know 32 blacks that fit the profile, but every little bit helps. And they're not zombies either.  Nice try though.

@MarkGiovanniSandore @GwenEams And if you come back with some venerable perspicacious understanding on politics on bull-crap, I am an AP student in all levels possible at my school, my father is an intelligence analyst for YOUR military who also earned a purple heart during the USS Cole bombing in 2000, and I have researched extensively on both policies. If you are looking for an argument, don't come this way. I was just telling you the facts as I have experienced them, and I heard all of the discourse, and I don't need to hear it again. You're welcome.

@MarkGiovanniSandore @GwenEams Those "churched black people" are probably lying to your face. You could be a very good guy, so they don't want to lose your friendship. The majority of friends are strict conservatives, yet I have grown up democrat and probably always will be. Almost all of my friends think that I'm a conservative, but I don't want it to be that way. I say that I am because I if I did told them my true views instead of just kepping mouth shut in every political discussion we have, they wouldn't look at me the same. So, in conclusion, don't be a hypocritical idiot who covers up his true feelings on the president behind political fallacies and "churched black people." Just say what you feel. And if your 14 year old child can vote, let me know how I can too, seeing as I'm only a 16 year old student in high school.

@MarkGiovanniSandore If you have to count the amount of "churched" black people you know, you are doing the worst job of covering up overt racism imaginable. Thank you for making your narrow-minded viewpoints completely transparent.
