After Hurricane Sandy, Bloomberg Endorses Obama

After previously indicating that he wasn’t going to back either candidate this election cycle, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg endorsed President Obama in acolumn for Bloomberg News emphasizing that — in the wake of Hurricane Sandy — he wanted a candidate who would take climate change science seriously.

Bloomberg also differed from Romney on issues of reproductive rights and gay marriage, he stated in his editorial, but kept coming back to the environment.

“One sees climate change as an urgent problem that threatens our planet; one does not. I want our president to place scientific evidence and risk management above electoral politics,” he wrote of the choice between voting for Mitt Romney and President Obama. He also stated:

Our climate is changing. And while the increase in extreme weather we have experienced in New York City and around the world may or may not be the result of it, the risk that it might be — given this week’s devastation — should compel all elected leaders to take immediate action.

Mitt Romney, he said, also has a “history of tackling climate change” but has “reversed course” from this position:

If the 1994 or 2003 version of Mitt Romney were running for president, I may well have voted for him because, like so many other independents, I have found the past four years to be, in a word, disappointing.

The Obama endorsement didn’t come easily. Both candidates had vied for the independent mayor’s support; Mitt Romney met with Bloomberg in early May. Later in the summer, the New York Times reported on a “casual conversation” the mayor had at a fundraiser where he described his hesitance to support a candidate:

Mr. Bloomberg said that he believed Mr. Romney would probably be better at running the country than Mr. Obama, according to two guests.

But Mr. Bloomberg said he could not support Mr. Romney because he disagreed with him on so many social issues, these two people said. The mayor mentioned two such issues: abortion rights and gun control.

Mayor Bloomberg’s endorsement, headlined as “Vote for a President to Lead on Climate Change,” arrives the same day as a Bloomberg Businessweek magazine cover story on Hurricane Sandy. The all-caps text on the striking red cover reads: “It’s Global Warming, Stupid.”

SEARCH: OBAMACARE AND YOUR BANK ACCOUNT. H.R. 3590 gives the federal government specific access to individual BANK accounts and medical records as provided by that individuals health plan. Not only will Obama RATION your health care — especially if you are a senior citizen — and have the government decide what treatment and benefits you get, the proposed plan will also build and expand the government’s surveillance and control grid. Do Not believe me - Search it OBAMA = MORE FREEDOM TAKEN FROM ALL OF US - ROMNEY/RYAN CAN RUN FEMA AND ANY OTHER FEDERAL PROGRAM WITHMORE EFFICIENCY AND LESS BUREAUCRACY ! REMEMBER THIS:THE GOVERNMENT HAS no money. GOV. HAS NO MONEY ! It is all TAXPAYERS MONEY ! FEMA's MONEY IS OUR MONEY !! Romney KNOWS how to manage it better !

Mitt still wants to privatize FEMA meaning a lot of money being spent by some who may become homeless do to sandy and other storms. I know folks want you to believe in Benghazi over this detail. But don't forget it. Also don't forget that when bush was president he went all "der I Donna know nutting!" and more zeros came after that number 3.

Stick to what you're good at Mr Mayor, namely running NYC and your business empire.

Don't pretend to be a scientist.

Arnie's attempt to be a fiscal conservative & social progressive should serve as a warning.

There are people all over the east coast picking up their lives, trying to figure out how they are going to get through the next fewweeks with house payments, rents, holidays, getting a paycheck.  I don'tknow if global warming is on the front burner or even sitting in thedriveway. Ask people in a few months and maybe they have a moment tothink about it. I applaud Bloomberg's endorsement of Obama..whatever.. people have more important things to think about at the moment.

Is not possible. One murder case is going out free of evidence of being murdered. What we learn? We learn how hard is to collect scientific facts. Meanwhile, there comes the biggest science ever experimented by men or by any man kind. Science has a root too. And have been since we care for it, like that. Explanation but adjusted to this the science? Yes. O.K. Thanks@t00.By

Given that on a geologic time scale the earth's average surface temperature has been substantially higher than it is now (77 degrees average, 58.6 degrees now) I suspect the changes we are seeing now are a return to normal and we'd best get used to them. If that means New York City, Washington DC and New Orleans are going underwater, I'd suggest those persons not wanting to live underwater move.

I'm actually quite curious as to why the mayor thinks Mitt "would probably be better at running the country" because I have yet to hear anyone apply a credible rationale to this belief yet...

Bloomberg has always seemed to be a social progressive/fiscal conservative..the old definition of a Republican. I guess that makes him an independent in today's political spectrum. Makes sense for a city the size of NY. He rabidly defends the financial district and the right for people to be who or whatever they they wish to be, provided they don't push the costs of their lifestyles onto everyone else. I can't agree with his views on soda or guns, but I understand where they come from.

JohnRosengarten

Many Republican and TPer's are cross because they want our President to fail.  They think that the Republicans might make life better.

History proves, decade after decade that Republicans run up the debt then blame it on anyone else but themselves.  All you people whining about the economy, where was your concern for the nation debt whrn your party was spending tax dollars like crazy and failing to fund their legislation?

If you want to bicker over political issues like women's rights or stimulus funding, I can understand that.  But to demean our President, and his supporters, is very Un-American.

God Bless America, and our President.

It make me  sick every time I see Omammy on the TV.  I almost lost it when I saw Christie hugging on him.  And Bloomberg has lost his Mind, but the Jews and the blacks have always had that unholy alliance.

Chris, your party is a traitor to our nation.  The way forward is blocked by the debris of Republicans.  The sooner that party disappears, the better.

I am amazed that the TPers have not got the memo on Climate Change.  Hey, wing-nuts on the right wing:  Move away from the oceans!  Your children will thank you.

Thank God for President Obama.  Could you imaginethe mess we would have had if McCain had won the 2008 election???

Bloomberg is a FA_G lover and he LOVES OVomit,, the absolute worst president this nation has ever had. If he gets a 2nd term, watch your taxes go through the roof to pay for his out of control spending.

I'll admit that I liked Bloomberg during his first 2 terms, but he has been horrible during his third. Between his unconstitutional soda ban and anti-semetic words against his own religion this actually makes me want Romney to win even more!

Bloomberg is an idiot, he should be so lucky lucky his brain bloom like his name.

He is the richest, and worst mayor of ny ever.

Obama's croney, obama talks about the rich, evryone he associates with is "superrich"

the best thing for this country is both get sent home, to their "childish world" they live in, and this Nation see them for the "FAKES" they are. i know i'll worry about their next meal tonight.

The business community supports President Obama.  Mayor Bloomberg is a business person.  Willard is a Monkey business Shyster.  Scientific Evidence and Risk Management are strategic interests the President and the Mayor agree upon.  Willard's Tea Party handlers will not allow Etch A Sketch to go anywhere near reality.  Obama - Biden 2012.

You know Joe Kernan, reminding us that he has a degree from MIT, will bring this up tomorrow on Squawk box. He'll throw in the controversy about anthropomorphic climate change. But seriously Joe since we'd logically need 500 years to sort that out, maybe we should just listen to 95% of the scientists and do something about this before we're all dead.

@GregPittman1957 Read the White House's sequestration proposal. Google it ... educate yourself ... pages 94 to 96,before sounding like a water carrier.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/assets/legislative_reports/stareport.pdfObama's proposed cuts to FEMA include the following (emphasis added):Flood Hazard Mapping and Risk Analysis Program - $8 million. State and Local Emergency Programs (non-defense) - $183 million. State and Local Emergency Programs (defense) - $5 million. United States Fire Administration and Training - $4 million. Salaries and Expenses (non-defense) - $75 million . Salaries and Expenses (defense) - $7 million. Disaster Relief - $580 million. Emergency Food and Shelter - $10 million. Radiological Emergency Preparedness Program - $3 million. National Pre-disaster Mitigation Fund - $3 million........Don't be a sucker for all the Obama media campaigning.

The debt certainly has something to do with saving the country from a depression and the aftermath of massive job losses in 2009.

Impatience is like someone hiring a contractor to rebuild a house after arson. The contractor cannot finish this huge job in one term and the owner turns around to hire the arsonist to finish the job.

Does this make any sense?
