There’s a new entry in the Disney Channel’s prime time line up and it’s a little, er, ruff around the edges. We hope you’ll excuse the pun, but when a show is called Dog With A Blog, all promises of sincerity are off. A skeptical eye is of the order. So let’s press play:
Disney’s new live-action series stars Stan, a dog who — no surprises here — has a blog. But that’s not the only trick this dog has. The talented canine was adopted by a father who was fed up with the fighting between two new step-siblings. Dear old dad is a psychologist and thinks a furry friend is just what the family needs to help stop the feuding and get them on the path to Brady Bunch levels of blended family harmony. So the four-legged friend joins the family and soon enough, he starts judging them. It turns out that Stan can not only blog, but can talk, with a particularly no-nonsense approach to handling family matters. The effect is just like if Dr. Phil had four legs and fuzzy ears.

The show stars also stars humans G. Hannelius, Blake Michael, and Beth Littleford (who grownups may recognize from The Daily Show With Jon Stewart). But none has proven as much of a breakout star as the lead dog, which has come replete with casting issues. Uproxx reports that the original dog slated to star as the titular “Dog with a Blog” was fired and replaced due to a minor contract dispute. Which Adrien Chen over at Gawker points out, “Is one thing [that Dog With A Blog gets right] about being a professional blogger.”
You can read Stan’s blog here, and even though there are only a few entries, it’s clear that wherever this dog learned his tricks, perhaps humans should take note. Stan’s blogging skills seem to be at least on par with — if not far superior to — many of the human bloggers working in the so-called blogosphere. With Stan in front of the cameras and behind the keyboard, there is little doubt that the show will live up to the honorarium illustrious title bestowed upon it by Uproxx, “history’s greatest television show.”
We have no doubt most ravenous fans of the show already caught the first episode last month. But if you’re worried about missing the theatrical stylings of this anthropomorphic pup, fear not: the show officially started last Sunday night on the Disney Channel.
