John Boehner is no stranger to public displays of emotion – he’s wept at the unveiling of a Ronald Reagan statue, during a floor speech in 2007 over military spending and is even known to shed a tear or two during his annual golf tournament. His most famous waterworks display came when he became Speaker of House, choking up as he accepted the gavel from former Speaker Nancy Pelosi in 2010. Boehner is defensive about his emotional side – speaking with Fox News about the incident he said, “I’m not going to apologize for being emotionally attached to the things I feel most strongly about.” Although one guest at a Neil Armstrong medal ceremony at which Boehner cried throughout said to the Huffington Post: “It was certainly a moving event, but seeing him sob and gasp for air was sort of off-putting.”
