Unfortunately, this week’s “Weekend Update” segment did not include an appearance from everyone’s favorite sporadically-recurring character Stefon. But it did feature another semi-regular known as Drunk Uncle, played by Bobby Moynihan. The notably alcoholic, racist, ignorant character chatted with host Seth Meyers about the week’s political events. “So were you surprised by any of the races?” Meyers asked. “Oh yeah, sure, black, Hispanics, Koreans, all of them,” Drunk Uncle replied. He also riffed on the problems with today’s youth and explained how politics was a much simpler beast back in his day. “There was no Green Party, there was no Senate,” Drunk Uncle slurred. “If you wanted a House of Representatives, you built one yourself.”
Really love Anne Hathaway in anything she does and enjoyed The Legend of Mokiki and the Sloppy Swish but had a mega sense of Déjà vu ‘cause of how much it reminded me Leos Carax’s short film “Merde” on the compilation movie Tokyo.
I was really glad to see the return of the musical digital shorts because those were the best thing on the show while Sandburg was around. I agree that this one didn’t quite live up to the old ones, but it was still really funny and catchy. I was talking to a coworker at DISH about the bit, and he was saying that they should have had Rihanna instead of Anne in the sketch. That would have been amazing and could have brought it to the level of the old digital shorts. I missed the show because I was out last night, but thankfully my Hopper from DISH recorded it for me. I love that I can record the whole season without worrying about storage space on my hard drive. I wonder if we will be getting more bits like this with the conclusion of the election; if so this is a promising start!
