Sri Lankan singer M.I.A. is no stranger to controversy; during her January Super Bowl performance, she flipped the bird. This spring, she provoked a Twitter war with CNN anchor Anderson Cooper over the Tamil Tigers. While promoting British documentary Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields, the singer tweeted that Cooper had called her a terrorist over her comments in the documentary. The journalist tweeted back, “I never called you a terrorist. I don’t even know who you are other than the lady who sang at superbowl.” Apparently in 2009, Cooper provided a link on his TV show’s blog to an article about M.I.A. that contained inaccuracies. The dispute ended on a conciliatory note when Cooper tweeted that Sri Lanka’s civil war has not gotten the attention it deserves in the U.S.
