“My dear remaining fellow Australians, the end of the world is coming,” said Julia Gillard.

Luckily for all of us, she was joking. The Australian Prime Minister’s remarks were a light-hearted response to a popular radio show that predicted the world would end at 9:00 a.m. on Dec. 7 causing “total human annihilation.”

“Whether the final blow comes from flesh eating zombies, demonic hell beasts or from the total triumph of K-Pop, if you know one thing about me, it is this: I will always fight for you to the very end,” she said.

The U.S. space agency NASA recently assured visitors to its website that the world is not , in fact, ending when the ancient Mayan calendar runs out .”The world will not end in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years.”
